Church Thoughts

A few church thoughts this morning...

Matthew 2:13-15 GET UP! FLEE! EVIL IS CHASING YOU!!! We gotta be real with the faith relationship!!!

*

When did our life begin? For me, I had no control over the first birth. The rebirth God planned for, and I actually chose the correct path. Glory hallelujah!

*

How do you find God worthy?

*

God is the same in the restoration.

*

Just because you see it in your wheelhouse does not mean it's the only way to get a home run!

*

God broke into this world from his world with the Light of the World!

*

One day, EVERY knee will bow ... AND ... EVERY tongue WILL confess...that Jesus Christ is Lord.

*

Do you acknowledge Christ like you acknowledge others? Think about this.

*

Do we let our Spirit seek out the souls of others?

*

What are your personal chains that keep you from Truth fulfilled?

*

Who is the hero of the story you live out?

*

When others make us feel unworthy or reject us, we must refocus the lens on what clearly matters.

*

If you have spent years in the wilderness, how did you make it through?

*

Our faith journey is not found in a comfort zone. We are in a warzone. Get off the fence to realize the blessing of faithful followers!

*

Be the light ...

Peace

"Forgive others, not because they deserve forgiveness, but because you deserve peace." ― Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Through my unique design, which includes a different operating system, I have encountered many trials that I don't fully comprehend. Honestly, I lack the ability to understand the uniqueness of social interaction, even though I constantly try to understand. A few get me and allow me to relax and just be me, but overall, the expectations are overwhelming. It is like a performance gone wrong over and over again.

There are things said to me that when I think about them, I pray no one else ever has to be hurt or not understand why anyone would say these things to another.

My wonderful gift is my relationship with Christ, which carries me through each day. From when I was a little girl until today, God has let me see who to move away from. It isn't that I don't care about the person, but that I understand that they need their space and freedom from me to regain their peace. It is my gift to them. There are so many beautiful people that God blesses my life with, and walking away from a few who can't tolerate me is okay.

Forgiveness is a process, but God always leads me into it perfectly in his timing. Does this mean that I return to places where I'm misunderstood? Sometimes. Most of the time, it is simply a closed door with another opening.

I always ask God if it is well in my soul. Is there anything I have done to cause the hurt I feel? When it is clear that it is well with MY soul, I move on in my service to others. God is so very good.

John 14:27"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid".

I am not of this world. I am a servant of one, with Christ as my Savior and the Holy Spirit who guides me by lifting the veil so that I can see more clearly, I am blessed to serve many.

Oh, I don't forget that I'm a sinner, but I am redeemed.

As we enter a new year, 2025, my word to focus on will be INTERCONNECTION, a mutual connection between two or more things. I enjoy connecting people to places where their gifts will be used in mighty ways. I enjoy being an encourager. I work well alone, but teamwork is my joy, especially when watching God use a group. I've seen self-centered leadership, and I've witnessed servanthood, and for sure, serving is my jam. I know I can't do anything alone, but through the mighty hands of God, all things are possible. Let's pray together more this new year!

Crisp

I have been reading a rather large series of books that a friend recommended. The theme that runs through them all is quilting but more so friendships.

Interestingly, the book I was reading had recipes, one being Apple-Pear Crisp. I did not think much about the recipes until we received a Harry & David box of beautiful pears, apples, and cheese.

I thought to myself that I was going to try that recipe for Christmas. I pulled out my mother's one piece of Le Creuset that I inherited and tried my hand at baking from a recipe.

Sorry, no finished baking photo...too busy!

Apple-Pear Crisp Serves 6 to 8       Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

For the filling:

3 cups diced Granny Smith apples 3 cups diced Bartlett pears

2 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

For the topping:

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup rolled oats

3 tablespoons sugar

¼ cup light brown sugar, loosely packed

½ teaspoon kosher salt

½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted (I would use three - 1/4 cup sticks)

For the filling: Place the fruit, sugar, and flour in a large bowl and toss well. Pour into an 8 x 8-inch pan. For the topping: Place the flour, oats, sugars, and salt in a large mixing bowl and toss well. Add the butter and toss again until it forms a consistent texture. Sprinkle on top of the fruit. Place the pan in the oven and cook until lightly browned on top, 35 to 40 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.

(we added a scoop of vanilla ice cream)

We had a quiet Christmas but celebrated by phone with the Grands! We had a great lunch, watched a football game, and put away some of the Christmas decor, but not the peace of Christmas. It remains with us throughout the days!

Bowling Stones

We are the Bowling Stones. We bowl in the Gutter Dusters League at the Plainview Bowling Center on Monday nights from August to May. We are decent bowlers, but we end up in nearly last place every season. It's how the handicap and balls roll. We have fun, though.

Headers - christmas 2

According to AI and the current calendar, Jesus was born 2,024 years ago, approximately 1,990 years since his death. The good news is that he rose again and lives today. The Christmas story is one of love and hope for our future. There was the star that led them to the Christ Child; the Christ Child is our star, the Light, who came through God's design to save the world. Salvation is a choice we make for the eternal joy found in service to Christ the Messiah, King. Peace lives within our hearts when we listen and move according to his will. Ring the bell of Heavenly Jubilee! I'm very thankful for the unveiling of this gift to me. Merry Christmas!

"She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” John 1.21

For 63 years, my Best friend has been Jesus; praise Him!!!

Sometimes ... Always

Sometimes, I open my eyes to a new day with a sweet lesson from God. I am always blessed in my day. I choose it that way. God is so perfect.

This morning, this is what I saw when my eyes first opened...

Streets

Ezekiel 1:28: Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking.

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

John 3:16-17: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Look for the flecks of light that the Lord of Light gives us throughout our days!

May the joy of the Lord be yours throughout this season and in the new year.

Daddy's Doll

This is my daddy's doll, in that, my daddy bought her for me for Christmas nearly 70 years ago. She is a bride doll and I still have her. She was as big as me. One day she will belong to someone else. I hope they feel the love. I'm pretty sure I loved my rocking horse, too.

Come Let us Adore Him...

The Birth of Jesus

1-5 About that time Caesar Augustus ordered a census to be taken throughout the Empire. This was the first census when Quirinius was governor of Syria. Everyone had to travel to his own ancestral hometown to be accounted for. So Joseph went from the Galilean town of Nazareth up to Bethlehem in Judah, David’s town, for the census. As a descendant of David, he had to go there. He went with Mary, his fiancée, who was pregnant.

6-7 While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. She gave birth to a son, her firstborn. She wrapped him in a blanket and laid him in a manger, because there was no room in the hostel.

An Event for Everyone

8-12 There were shepherds camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God’s angel stood among them and God’s glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.”

13-14 At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God’s praises:

Glory to God in the heavenly heights,
Peace to all men and women on earth who please him.

15-18 As the angel choir withdrew into heaven, the shepherds talked it over. “Let’s get over to Bethlehem as fast as we can and see for ourselves what God has revealed to us.” They left, running, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. Seeing was believing. They told everyone they met what the angels had said about this child. All who heard the shepherds were impressed.

19-20 Mary kept all these things to herself, holding them dear, deep within herself. The shepherds returned and let loose, glorifying and praising God for everything they had heard and seen. It turned out exactly the way they’d been told!

Blessings

21 When the eighth day arrived, the day of circumcision, the child was named Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived.

22-24 Then when the days stipulated by Moses for purification were complete, they took him up to Jerusalem to offer him to God as commanded in God’s Law: “Every male who opens the womb shall be a holy offering to God,” and also to sacrifice the “pair of doves or two young pigeons” prescribed in God’s Law.

25-32 In Jerusalem at the time, there was a man, Simeon by name, a good man, a man who lived in the prayerful expectancy of help for Israel. And the Holy Spirit was on him. The Holy Spirit had shown him that he would see the Messiah of God before he died. Led by the Spirit, he entered the Temple. As the parents of the child Jesus brought him in to carry out the rituals of the Law, Simeon took him into his arms and blessed God:

God, you can now release your servant;
release me in peace as you promised.
With my own eyes I’ve seen your salvation;
it’s now out in the open for everyone to see:
A God-revealing light to the non-Jewish nations,
and of glory for your people Israel.

33-35 Jesus’ father and mother were speechless with surprise at these words. Simeon went on to bless them, and said to Mary his mother,

This child marks both the failure and
the recovery of many in Israel,
A figure misunderstood and contradicted—
the pain of a sword-thrust through you—
But the rejection will force honesty,
as God reveals who they really are.

36-38 Anna the prophetess was also there, a daughter of Phanuel from the tribe of Asher. She was by now a very old woman. She had been married seven years and a widow for eighty-four. She never left the Temple area, worshiping night and day with her fastings and prayers. At the very time Simeon was praying, she showed up, broke into an anthem of praise to God, and talked about the child to all who were waiting expectantly for the freeing of Jerusalem.

39-40 When they finished everything required by God in the Law, they returned to Galilee and their own town, Nazareth. There the child grew strong in body and wise in spirit. And the grace of God was on him.

They Found Him in the Temple

41-45 Every year Jesus’ parents traveled to Jerusalem for the Feast of Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up as they always did for the Feast. When it was over and they left for home, the child Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but his parents didn’t know it. Thinking he was somewhere in the company of pilgrims, they journeyed for a whole day and then began looking for him among relatives and neighbors. When they didn’t find him, they went back to Jerusalem looking for him.

46-48 The next day they found him in the Temple seated among the teachers, listening to them and asking questions. The teachers were all quite taken with him, impressed with the sharpness of his answers. But his parents were not impressed; they were upset and hurt.

His mother said, “Young man, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been half out of our minds looking for you.”

49-50 He said, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I had to be here, dealing with the things of my Father?” But they had no idea what he was talking about.

51-52 So he went back to Nazareth with them, and lived obediently with them. His mother held these things dearly, deep within herself. And Jesus matured, growing up in both body and spirit, blessed by both God and people.
