Luke 22:19-20
And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me." In the same way, after the supper, he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
I've been meditating on the verse for a while. The scripture says, "Do this," I find this something important enough to command that I listen.
Receiving Holy Communion strengthens us in spirit. It provides divine grace and charity and leads to healing in body and soul. Remembering strengthens us against temptations.
1 Corinthians 11:28-29, Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.
I believe this verse has nothing to do with one's worthiness and everything to do with a pure heart, a heart that has fully experienced Jesus' peace.
I trust that it is not intended to push anyone away from the table. Instead, it is a nudge to gain pureness in spirit, a self-examination-heart-check before we step into His presence to remember. We should partake unto grace rather than judgment. The Lord's Supper (Holy Communion) is for all who have accepted Christ as their Savior (the Church), and of all the "churchy" things that I honor and respect, this act of love I embrace with humbleness, honor, and glory.
