Double Good

I had a double-good shopping day this week. I was looking for a metal art sculpture for a spot in our yard where I removed a fountain. I had exhausted looking online. I could not find the simple lines that I had in my head. The old saying goes, if you are looking for something specific, you won't find it, and if you are just looking, you will find everything you want! Well, I found both. It was a double-good day!

Evalene's Gifts and More and McDonald's Trading Post did not disappoint. At Evalene's, I did not find the metal sculpture I was searching for, but I found what I wasn't looking for—this simple red metal bench to replace one that was too large for the space.

We all know that McDonald's Trading Post has everything, right? If they don't have it, you don't need it! Well, they had exactly what I was looking for. I knew it the moment I saw it. I had dragonfly art that sweet Ester had made me and a beautiful mint green rock that I wanted to incorporate into this sculpture feature. I'm delighted with it. It has such personal meaning and vibes that make me smile!!! Life is good.

I am my Father-in-law!

I am my father-in-law! When Clinton and I visited his parents' home after we were married, I would see TC drinking his coffee. When he finished, he rinsed out the cup and sat it back by the coffee maker. I wondered then why he did not put it in the dishwasher and get a different cup or mug. They had several.

Forward many years, and to me with my coffee making. I make one pour-over cup of black coffee each morning. Afterward, I sit it on a warmer to keep it hot while I start my day, savoring each sip. I use the same cup/mug (metal) because it works well with the warmer's connectivity. I rinse it out and place it in the cabinet for tomorrow's enjoyment. Thank you, TC, for this labor-free way of drinking my coffee. (note: it does get washed often, just not every day)

I also love that my coffee is stored in one of my parents' containers, which they had in their early marriage. It would be over 75 years old!

Sweet dad memories! John & TC = love for/from me. I was blessed!

Designed with Purpose

Two roses, different, both beautiful and designed with purpose!

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered,
    two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Birthday Gathering

We lived in Westgate on Garland Street when we had this birthday gathering in our backyard. From left to right: Marie Anderson Tom; I think this is Beverly Ammons and Bert Wall (both headless); Heather Tom; the twins, Nicholle and David Tom; and the birthday boy, Aaron.

Marie helped my mother with me when I was a young child. She passed away this year. She was a good friend to my mother.

It's on the Bricks

It's on the bricks, and if it is, it must be for real: happy faces in the View. If there is an issue that we can do something about and we are willing to go through the proper channels, further if necessary, to see good change, go for it. If we aren't willing to put in the work to create a better community, then we have no room to complain. When we complain, we often don't know the back story or the why or what's really happening. We are all guilty. We must get involved and educate ourselves. When we complain, it creates a negative vibe that others see on social media or hear and spread, and it also hurts feelings. My mother always said that serving up "honey" was a much better way to get our desired outcome than being a Bitter Betty. (pre Karen and Brandon, LOL)

We have such great "smiley faced" people in our community, business owners, friends & such, who truly do put in the work to make things happen...as I like to call them, fully-domed visionaries. Thank you very much for all you do! You know who you are :)

Whimsy

I enjoy whimsy and love to think of ways to use common things in uncommon ways. I found this linen piece at a local antique booth and have enjoyed watching God's breeze play with it.

Even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:17

I feel the breeze and am reminded that I know the God who created it all. And, he loves me!

Whimsy can be defined as playful and God gives us playful joy through his creation.

Created

God created me as worthy of his Kingdom work. My ministry is so small that you may miss it, but HE does, and he encourages me along the way. I often think about what I see in great theologians and evangelistic individuals and think that's who is really cool in the Kingdom's work. God reminds me to stay focused and willing, and he will use me in ways I do not understand. It is beautiful to be in His presence.

Created is to have brought something into existence. God brought us into existence and loves us into Salvation. This is my prayer that all I touch will know his presence and grab hold.

Two of our grands (local ladies) created and brought into existence an art piece for my birthday. Isn't she wonderful!

I pray for all of our grands many times a day. God has blessed us with five beautiful souls who are kind, humble, loving, and creative beyond what I can understand! We love them and cherish each second we get to enjoy them.

Dark and Light

I read this quote today, "What is kept in the dark stays in the dark." God is the creator of dark and light; he sees and knows all. Nothing dark (secrets and such) is not seen or known by God. When we are in these dark places where Satan reminds us of our failures (over and over), we must remember that God is the God of love, forgiveness, redemption, and Salvation; even when we feel alone and unworthy, there is Light to lead us!

Always seeking in the shadows, I am a sinner. I always pray, teach me, and help me not repeat negative history. I find that when my focus is on serving others, God fills me with encouragement and blessings that I do not deserve but cherish.

The World Is Not a Stage

“Be especially careful when you are trying to be good so that you don’t make a performance out of it. It might be good theater, but the God who made you won’t be applauding.

2-4 “When you do something for someone else, don’t call attention to yourself. You’ve seen them in action, I’m sure—‘playactors’ I call them—treating prayer meeting and street corner alike as a stage, acting compassionate as long as someone is watching, playing to the crowds. They get applause, true, but that’s all they get. When you help someone out, don’t think about how it looks. Just do it—quietly and unobtrusively. That is the way your God, who conceived you in love, working behind the scenes, helps you out.

Pray with Simplicity

“And when you come before God, don’t turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for fifteen minutes of fame! Do you think God sits in a box seat?

“Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.

7-13 “The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what’s best—
    as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You’re in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You’re ablaze in beauty!
    Yes. Yes. Yes.

14-15 “In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can’t get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God’s part.

16-18 “When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don’t make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won’t make you a saint. If you ‘go into training’ inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn’t require attention-getting devices. He won’t overlook what you are doing; he’ll reward you well.

A Life of God-Worship

19-21 “Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or—worse!—stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it’s safe from moth and rust and burglars. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.

22-23 “Your eyes are windows into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a musty cellar. If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have!

24 “You can’t worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you’ll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. You can’t worship God and Money both.

25-26 “If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.

27-29 “Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.

30-33 “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

34 “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
