IPF

Today was the PF (Pulmonary Fibrosis) Walk for Team Charlie Gonzales. His family and friends gathered at Trussell Park to walk in support & gain information about PF. Charlie is diagnosed with Idiopathic (no known cause) Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) which is a condition in which the lungs become scarred and breathing becomes increasingly difficult. It's not clear what causes it.

  • One in 200 over the age of 70 are living with IPF
  • 50,000 new cases are diagnosed annually
  • Symptoms are shortness of breath, dry hacking cough, fatigue & weakness, and chest discomfort

I have known Lupe from Facebook for several years and both she & Charlie deliver Meals on Wheels the same day of the week that I do. God has brought us together & they sure bless my life. Because of them, I know more about PF...

Master Electrician

I deliver Meals on Wheels each Wednesday. To say I enjoy my route is an understatement. I look forward to God blessing me each Wednesday from the people on the route.

Last week, one man and I were talking, and he was a master electrician in the mid-eighties. He knew my grandfather, Hugh Etter, who was a master electrician, as well. This man said that Hugh Etter was known to be the master electrician with the most licensed years in Plainview. This got me thinking... did we have his license for the year he started? I did not find it in the attic totes.

What I did find were his licensing year cards from 1958-1988. What we know for sure is that he finished wiring the rebuilt Harvest Queen Mill in 1928. We know he worked for Burt's Electric, located on Austin Street, before the 1928 date. We also know that he first opened a shop on Broadway Street, then later relocated to a newer location that sat just west of the old city hall behind the City Auditorium on 9th Street. So, the best I can figure is that he most likely had his master electrician license for nearly seventy years.

Many early homes & businesses that he wired, he dated and signed on an attic rafter. We have a couple of these pieces that folks have found and given us.

While I was searching in the family totes, I found this poem that Bo (Hugh) and Cranny's (Lucy) friend, Fern (his domino partner), wrote after my grandfather "Bo" died...

I also brought in this beautiful bookmark that was his mother's, which is in my Bible now.

My Thought

I am not one to share opinions on social media. I simply reserve the space for connectivity. I enjoy sharing what my faith means to me and how God has shown me my way since I was five years old.

I have thoughts about a lot of things, and in every situation, I find myself in prayer. I converse with God all the day long. I know I am a sinner, but I am a redeemed follower of Christ and have been offered forgiveness through his death and resurrection.

I see him at work in my life, and this allows this vessel to be filled, used in service, and never run dry...he is the Living Water.

I was reading the first chapters of Genesis, always looking for God in the divine words. In chapter 2, verse 17, but you must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die.

I embrace that God doesn't say "if" they eat from the Tree of Life, but for on the day you eat from it...

He has a plan. Our sins can't stop the plan he has for us.

Then, in chapter 3, we read the temptation and fall story. God said, You will certainly die, and we did die to sin in that moment. The crack in the vessel was created, and yet, God still uses it for his glory—hope, my friends, the hope that comes through God's plan.

God's design, the sacrifice of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit who comes forth to us as our helper...the Triune, Trinity. He is my joy.

Like Plainview itself, the network of amazing women in leadership in our community is progressive!

The 2022 Women of Distinction were Melinda Brown, Tonya Keesee, and Nancy Stukey, excellent examples of leading the way.

I Don't

I'm a masker through my wiring of Aspergers. I don't have to pretend (mask) as I walk with my Creator because he wove me in my mother's womb for a purpose and knows me as his child. He prepares the way and gives me courage. He provides over-flowing goodness each day that allows me to sing his praises throughout the day, but especially when I lay my head down to rest each night. He sees me through the highs and lows, the confusion, the over-stimulation that he calls me into so that he can use me; standing in the promise.

(I do not own the rights to the lyrics or music to this amazing song. I pray it touches hearts as God directs.)

I Don't Have to Pretend by Victory Boyd

Hold me near
I know that You heal me
My eyes crying tears
My heart in humility

Plead my case, I pour my complaints
Here at the altar
Why should I carry this weight?
Why should I suffer when I have a Savior
Who intimately cares for my sake?
Yes, I have a Savior who came to bear this grief in my place

I don't have to pretend like everything's okay
That's not what Jesus meant when He said to have faith
If you see me crying, I'm being true
Instead of lying about what I'm going through
I'm trusting God to heal my every wound
And I know He will, He makes all things new
All things new

Breathe, life and death
I need You to resurrect this heart
From the depths
One touch from You is all I request

Here at the altar
Why should I carry this weight?
Why should I suffer when I have a Savior
Who intimately cares for my sake?
Yes, I have a Savior who came to bear this grief in my place

I don't have to pretend like everything's okay
That's not what Jesus meant when He said to have faith
If you see me crying, I'm being true
Instead of lying about what I'm going through
I'm trusting God to heal my every wound
And I know He will, He makes all things new

I don't have to 'cause He makes all things new
All things new, all things new
I don't have to 'cause He makes all things new
All things new, all things new
I don't have to 'cause He makes all things new
(I don't have to 'cause He makes all things new)
