I'm listening to a study about the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is my Helper.
I often say that the Holy Spirit is the forgotten link of the Triune.
In the Old Testament, the story is from and about God with the hope of Jesus promised; who is and was and is to come. In the New Testament, we learn about Jesus, his power, and His love for us as Children of God.
In John 14:16-17 Jesus tells us, And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. So Jesus tells us that the third part of the Trinity is promised and will be with us forever.
God has supplied our Helper. One in essence but distinct in personhood; all divine advocates in One.
I'm sure theologians think about walking in God's Old Testament times. Some say they wish they could sit and listen to Jesus talk. I don't think we think much about Christ's manifestation with us! Jesus had to go away for this gift to happen. This great love is the presence of God found in every part of my following Jesus experience.
It is interesting to think about Jesus and his ministry. It all happened right there where he was. I believe this is why so many travel to the Holy Land to sense the magnitude with gratitude. Jesus delivered salvation and birthed the Church right where he was. Many came.
Then, the Helper came, and the Jesus gift of salvation is available to the ends of the earth. When we think about the life of Jesus, we remember stories of those who dined with Jesus. Who did he have dinner with? The beautiful result of the Holy Spirit is that it allows us all equal access to everything God; the Triune is networked!
The Holy Spirit is external and internal when we give him the freedom to guide our lives. The power of prayer is the breath of the Holy Spirit.
I stand in awe of God's great plan. When we pattern our life after the life of Jesus, then we will understand that our ministry is to happen right where we are and that the Holy Spirit is with us always.
