I remember my mother, Lorena, selling so many beautiful lines of clothing at the Dixie Shop. One line was St. John Knits. They were such pretty pieces of clothing, more art than practical, but I recall them being beautifully made and comfortable. Knits were popular for the well-dressed women of Plainview. Another knit brand was Francesca by Damon. My going away off white pant set at our wedding was this brand. I remember that Dixie Shop owner, Vic Hooper, special ordered it for us. It was not near as expensive as a St. John Knit, but still lovely. St. John Knits are still important in women's fashion, and the quality and texture make them worth their value. They continue to use leather, but knits are their mainstay.

Fine fashion is still available for those who enjoy beautiful garments. It's how I grew up, around beautiful clothing and the prominent women of Plainview. We lived in a small two-bedroom one bath home and both of my parents were in retail; her clothing, him appliances, and me later in life, shoes. We were blessed by the customers. Retail is a beautiful place to be.
