Harmony

“It takes the black keys and the white keys both to make perfect harmony.” - Benny Goodman, The King of Swing's reply to when he was asked as to why he had an integrated band. Long, long ago, about 4th grade, I read this quote, and it has been in my heart for all these years. Creating harmony can't be done alone.

On Friday, Juneteenth, a group of Plainview residents will come together to have a dialogue on social justice. It will be held outside of Dreams Entertainment right off of 6th and Columbia Streets at 7 PM. Here is the schedule:

Paul McCartney wrote, Ebony and Ivory, and I remember as a teen thinking how powerful these words are and also not fully understanding them.

Ebony and ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, oh Lord, why don't we?

We all know that people are the same wherever you go
There is good and bad in ev'ryone
We learn to live when we learn to give
Each other what we need to survive, together alive

Ebony and ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, oh Lord, why don't we?

Ebony, ivory, living in perfect harmony
Ebony, ivory, ooh

We all know that people are the same wherever you go
There is good and bad in ev'ryone
We learn to live when we learn to give
Each other what we need to survive, together alive

Ebony and ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, oh Lord, why don't we?

Side by side on my piano keyboard, oh Lord, why don't we
Ebony, ivory, living in perfect harmony
Ebony, ivory, living in perfect harmony
Ebony, ivory, living in perfect harmony
Ebony, ivory, living in perfect harmony
Ebony, ivory, living in perfect harmony
Ebony, ivory, living in perfect harmony

In the Word, I read Romans 2:11, For God shows no partiality.

1 Corinthians 14:26, What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.

Ephesians 4:2-3, With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Philippians 2:3, Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

James 1:19-20, My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

The Golden rule is what my parents instilled in me that I carry with me and try to remember in every circumstance, "Treat others how you want to be treated."

As I have prepared to attend this important meeting, I have studied, listened, learned, watched, asked questions, and prayed, as God flipped the lightbulb switch on to the beginning of understanding in my mind and heart. I am ready to listen to our panel of key Plainview people and hear local citizen's questions that will begin our progress of understanding as we build relationships, set goals, and partner fully as a community.

Jesus loves the little children of the word, Red, Yellow, Black and White (and colors in between) Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Galatians 3:28, "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
