The Triune God.
God is a community of relationships.
Today, my lesson was on empathy. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Matthew 9:36 says that when Jesus saw the crowds that he had compassion on them. Empathy and compassion are different but connected.
We all have experiences of suffering. We must be prepared for these battles so that we are teachable. God asks us out of our abundance to share the ministry song as he leads us through the fire. Always remembering that he won't lead where he has not prepared the way. I find that people want others to 'cry' with them. People need us to simply be there, to give an encouraging word, acknowledge their loss, whatever or whomever it might be.
In my Asperger's wiring, I do not grasp social cues, nor do I pretend to understand. What I do know is that God, in his excellent design, gives me a gift of sensing what others cannot. Even though empathy and compassion seem beyond me at times, God allows me beauty in the ministry of seeing the hearts of the broken.
I don't give hugs easily. I require space. If you enter this space and approach me, at the age of sixty-four, I know how to respond, but the internal processing goes crazy, and often, my computer will freeze up and then need to reboot. Processing, we are all doing it in one way or another; the broken the grieving, the mentally ill and emotionally challenged. In this design, the Triune God intervenes and provides my community of relationships. I pray he will for you, too.
Respecting the Giver.
