It's Here!

I'm excited it's here! The entry catalog for the South Plains Fair. It was suggested by Karen Henderson, who has entered baked items for years, that Susan Barkley should enter her crazy awesome quilts and I should enter a picture or two that I have taken. We will see.

Blue Jay

A Parable by G. Stevens

A donkey and an elephant were on a boat with a leak in it. Slowly, the water was coming in, and the boat was sinking. This is the conversation they had:

Elephant: “We need to fix the leak, or the boat will sink.”

Donkey: “The water is already too high, we need to bail out the water.”

Elephant: “Bailing the water is a temporary solution. Fixing the leak is permanent.”

Donkey: “It will take a long time to fix the leak. Who knows? In the time it takes to fix the leak, the boat could already have sunk!”

Elephant: “I don’t think so. I think we can fix the leak quickly as long as it’s the only thing we do. We have to turn all of our efforts into fixing the leak.

Donkey: “But the water is already uncomfortably high! And if we don’t start bailing, it will just get even higher and be even more uncomfortable.

Blue-Jay: “Why don’t you spend some time bailing water, and at the same time work on fixing the leak?”

Elephant: “I don’t trust the Donkey. I think once he bails the water enough to get it low enough, he won’t be uncomfortable anymore and he won’t bother with the leak.”

Donkey: “Ridiculous! Once the water is low enough, we are all comfortable, and we can take our time and fix the leak the right way, instead of rushing it!”

Elephant: “But I don’t want to be spending all of this time bailing water! It’s my time! I have plans for this time. Once we fix the leak, we can use that time for all kinds of things, like enjoying the scenery or rowing this boat to new and better places! But we can’t do those things if all of our time is taken up bailing water!”

Donkey: “But I don’t trust you! You’re going to fix the leak poorly so that the bottom 80% of the boat is constantly filled with water. You’ll claim the problem is solved because your big fat elephant head is to high up. The rest of us shorter animals are practically swimming!”

Elephant: “Well, logically, it’s obvious to me that the source of the problem is the leak. We have to fix that and ignore everything else, and if that means that the bottom of the boat is wet, then so be it!”

Donkey: “The whole point of this boat ride is to be comfortable! You just want a quick fix that leaves me wading in a half-sunk boat, so that you can sit back and sun the top of your giant elephant head!”

Blue-Jay: “It seems to me…”

Donkey: “Shut up!”

Elephant: “Yeah, shut up.”

Spider: “You know, the real problem you have is the boat. If there were no boat, you’d have no leak.”

The moral of this story is? You tell us what you think.

The Branch

In another vision, the Lord showed me the High Priest Joshua standing before the angel of the Lord. And there beside Joshua stood Satan, ready to bring an accusation against him. The angel of the Lord said to Satan, “May the Lord condemn you, Satan! May the Lord, who loves Jerusalem, condemn you. This man is like a stick snatched from the fire.” Joshua was standing there, wearing filthy clothes. The angel said to his heavenly attendants, “Take away the filthy clothes this man is wearing.” Then he said to Joshua, “I have taken away your sin and will give you new clothes to wear.” He commanded the attendants to put a clean turban on Joshua's head. They did so, and then they put the new clothes on him while the angel of the Lord stood there. Then the angel told Joshua that the Lord Almighty had said: “If you obey my laws and perform the duties I have assigned you, then you will continue to be in charge of my Temple and its courts, and I will hear your prayers, just as I hear the prayers of the angels who are in my presence. Listen then, Joshua, you who are the High Priest; and listen, you fellow priests of his, you that are the sign of a good future: I will reveal my servant, who is called The Branch! I am placing in front of Joshua a single stone with seven facets. I will engrave an inscription on it, and in a single day, I will take away the sin of this landWhen that day comes, each of you will invite your neighbor to come and enjoy peace and security, surrounded by your vineyards and fig trees."

Zechariah 3:1-10

This scripture is one of the most beautiful of all the scriptures to me.

He pulled me from the fire! He is the Branch of Life. He takes nothing and uses it. I am proof. Feeling blessed!

A fairy is described as a small imaginary being of human form that has magical powers. As sad as this is, there are many fairies who live in our world. We hear about them, but most never get the opportunity to see them because they are in dark places afraid to be seen. Fear of the unknown. Their magical powers of mental illness are more a curse than a gift as eyes of intolerance stare but don't care. Fairies are created to be loved. Non-fairies are to find the goodness in them and let them draw us into their beauty. They are not imaginary. They are real.

How we are wired, each one of us is not of our doing. We are divinely created. I believe fairies are in the world to use their magical powers to create a balance in the human race. Compassion, kindness, tolerance, love, all action emotions are things we can learn from fairies! Do not feel sorry for them. They are fairies with magical powers. The spell is cast!

Fresh Find: I enjoy wire art. This Statue of Liberty is pretty amazing!

Memory Foam

Things. There are things, and there are things that are filled with special memories. Things, I find are easy to let go of. Things that are stuffed with memory foam, quite a different story! Like this train. It was a gift from a young Ukranian girl on my birthday I celebrated in the Ukraine in the early 1990s.

This hat, although it is not a gift, it is the cowboy hat that our son wore when we went to the BarNone and Boys Ranch rodeos with my grandfather, Hugh "Bo" Etter. All "foamed" over with precious memories!

Memory foam, yes! These books belonged to Bertram "Bert" Etter and Hugh Etter. Two young boys who lost their mother and made their way from Arizona to Plainview, Texas via Cisco, Texas. The ruler was "Bo's" and I can remember him using it in the shop as he worked on his many project interests.

A childhood memory is of Ed Nash at my birthday parties. His parents owned a local business. They took trips often as a family, and they bought this gift on a trip to Japan for my big day. It was a good party for all when Ed came. He was such fun! Memory Foam!!!

I have considered boxing thing one to thing one hundred, and more, up and storing them, so I don't have to dust them. I'm pretty sure our kids don't want all this memory foam, but maybe their kids will like the feel better! I won't take the memories with me when I die. I don't even want to, but until then, I will attempt to remember the memory of the things I have been entrusted with. Maybe filled with fluffy foam, these memories, but just the same, my memories!

A sentimental journey in the memory foam store of life!

And, then, there are these...

More memory foam! LOL, These are from the National Skate Day competition at the skatepark recently. Fun day. Great athletes!

Fresh Find: Live cactus terrarium necklace is pretty cute, or keychain!

Gold Leaf

Haggai 2:1-9,  On the twenty-first day of the seventh month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai: “Speak to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, to Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people. Ask them,  ‘Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing?  But now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ declares the Lord. ‘Be strong, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,’ declares the Lord, ‘and work. For I am with you,’ declares the Lord Almighty.  ‘This is what I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt. And my Spirit remains among you. Do not fear.’  “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘The silver is mine, and the gold is mine,’ declares the Lord Almighty. ‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place, I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”

I'm not sure how this will go, but this is what I'm given, so I tend to go with it.

The temple is gone. For those who had seen the temple in all its glory, I'm guessing that what they saw in their labor did not compare. The new foundation is almost done, but it's not the same. They are discouraged and tired. Maybe they are like we are when we can't see the finished product before we start. We are reminded that God sees the whole picture. God instructs them to, be strong, to work, and assures them that He is with them. He is just asking us to trust in His plan.

He made a covenant, and we are blessed. He tells us over and over not to fear, "Do not fear." We may experience a little heavenly rock and roll shakedown in our world, our lives, but He is everpresent.

Everything is His. I think this is just about the coolest gift of understanding I have. Whoever we are, everything we are, including all we accumulate belongs to Him. This takes the pressure away. It provides peace.

He then goes on to say that the present house is going to outshine the former like a gold leaf! Okay, so the scripture doesn't say outshine like a gold leaf, it just says that what we know now outshines what was in the past.  I tell you that something greater than the temple is here. Matthew 12:6

I was laying down on the sofa in our backyard, and I looked up and saw this gold leaf. It was the only leaf reflecting brilliant gold. It brought me to the Haggai scripture I had read earlier.

Jesus Christ is the present. Our past is forgiven. He is the shimmer of hope for every future.

1 Corinthians 1:27-30,  But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.

Be strong, work, he is with us!!!

Art Camp

Our second oldest grandsister had art camp this week at C.A.M.P. (Contemporary Art Museum Plainview). She had a great experience. If you have not stopped by to view the gallery, you will want to do this. They have a new show coming up in July featuring one of our own, Jon Whitfill, with his show, Patent Pending. They will share more in the days ahead. The July, 2nd Saturday's, After Hours on Ash, would be a great evening to stop by.

Thank you to Kelly and her crew for a great two weeks of art camp for the youth of our community.

We are honored to have this piece from 'Artist Princess' in our collection.
