Odd

Odd is defined as being different from what is usual or expected. I have felt this way my entire life. Don't get me wrong, I love odd. I'm not one to follow, but then I don't want the attention of standing out as different either. A double-edged sword of sorts.

Today, I noticed this odd little flower amongst some giant beauties; odd.

Romans 12:2 says, Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Life is so much easier when we decide to be who God created us to be. We are worthy through Him. No need to worry about what others have, their successes, our failures, etc. We just need to continue to be transformed. If this seems odd. Oh well.

Name

Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants, you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingersthe moon, and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Psalm 8

Knowing God. He has been showing me exciting things about my name. My name is the gateway to who I am to the world. Knowing someone's name is the bridge to building a relationship. I must keep the character of my name worthy. I must know the names of those I meet.

From the book of Genesis through Revelation, the importance of a name is a thread that weaves the story of Jesus.

I have always heard, it's who you know that will ultimately connect you to where you are trying to get. To know His name is to experience connectivity. Who better to network with and for?

Don't view Jesus like the fine china we might bring out once or twice a year, see the beauty every day.

How Majestic our Lord is. It is hard for me to fathom His all-encompassing reach. Looking in verse 3, "When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers... Wow, just wow! His fingers are what he used to create the heavens. His fingers! This is my God! I am his child.

He made me just lower than the angels and then set my path as a ruler over His world.

How am I doing? I'm a child, an infant. I know he is still teaching me. I fail. I get back up. He cares for me. I'm willing. Lord, Oh Lord, how majestic is your name!

There's just something about that name!

Birthdays

016

Birthdays are special days for kids. It seems like in many pictures they are blowing out the candles with whoever is celebrating the birthday. I enjoy this picture of our two children helping their Grandmother, Peggy Wall, blow out her birthday candles.

Bucket List

I don't have a bucket list. I honestly do not know where people find time to create this type of list. I'm not being critical at all. I just don't get having a list of things I really want to do or places I want to go. It is a bit strange; I get that. If anything came close to being listed, it would have been a fleeting thought of going up in an airplane and getting to take a few aerial pictures. Today, Tim Hardage made that fleeting thought a fantastic reality.

5/2

5/2

After this, Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee (some call it Tiberias). A huge crowd followed him, attracted by the miracles they had seen him do among the sick. When he got to the other side, he climbed a hill and sat down, surrounded by his disciples. It was nearly time for the Feast of Passover, kept annually by the Jews. When Jesus looked out and saw that a large crowd had arrived, he said to Philip, “Where can we buy bread to feed these people?” He said this to stretch Philip’s faith. He already knew what he was going to do. Philip answered, “Two hundred silver pieces wouldn’t be enough to buy bread for each person to get a piece.” One of the disciples—it was Andrew, brother to Simon Peter—said, “There’s a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish. But that’s a drop in the bucket for a crowd like this.” Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” There was a nice carpet of green grass in this place. They sat down, about five thousand of them. Then Jesus took the bread and, having given thanks, gave it to those who were seated. He did the same with the fish. All ate as much as they wanted. When the people had eaten their fill, he said to his disciples, “Gather the leftovers, so nothing is wasted.” They went to work and filled twelve large baskets with leftovers from the five barley loaves. John 6:1-13

5/2, I've always loved the miracle of the loaves and fishes. 5/2, five loaves and 2 fish. I've always thought that five loaves and two fish was a lot of food for a youngster to have in his basket. Maybe he had enough to last for the journey or maybe he had enough because God's plan was to use him.

I don't know of many young children who would want to give over their lunch, but maybe Jesus looked into his heart and taught him about sacrificial giving.

We are so hung up on what we have, what we can buy, where we can go, and how much more can we get, that we miss the simple truth of putting what we have back into God's hands to realize the blessing.

Can you imagine 5,000, give or take 5,000, tired and hungry people? I'm guessing there might have been some "constructive" criticism going on. At the very least some major chaos was happening in the minds of those in charge of feeding the crowd.

We forget that God brings order to chaos as we look to him for answers.

Five loaves and two fishes do not add up to feeding  the 5,000 plus, hungry humans. The will of God rarely adds up. We attempt to do the math ourselves, but we so often overlook the answer.

In life, it seems, we want God to provide more so that we can give him less.

A little boy simply gave five loaves and two fish and found himself smack-dab in the middle of one of the biggest miracles of Jesus!

(And after a weekend with a granddaughter who taught me about dabbing, I can just visualize this young boy and Andrew doing the success dab, exuberant with joy)

God calls us to his table. He multiplies our blessings. Do we multiply our giving? Our meal may turn into someone else's miracle!

Will we miss it?

I love how Matthew 6:11 reads in the Message...

“The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what’s best—
    as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You’re in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You’re ablaze in beauty!
    Yes. Yes. Yes.

Living God

Listening to a radio sermon on a recent trip and the Holy Spirit nudged me to save a few things to share.

God came to rescue. He sent Hope. Whatever we give, don't deny others the only Living God.

Titus 1:2 ... in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, ...

Are we called to belong to Jesus Christ? There is only ONE gospel. It applies to us all. Truth.

You can take a billion oranges and never get a banana. We can live a good life, but unless we accept the Living God's call, we are not saved.

The Gift of Hope through Grace is a gift for anyone.

The Bible is not just information but the intervention of God, breaking in and saving us.

Stop trusting what we can do and start trusting what God has already done.

How intricate his creation is!
