When I read the definitions of stitch, I found that we are a people of stitches.

There have been moments where we have felt a local sharp and sudden pain in the gut. You know, the unexpected hurt.

Then there are those stitches that God allows the in-and-out movement of a threaded needle to hold us together.

Sometimes a portion of hurt is left in us that irritates and must be dealt with.

I laugh when I think about the least bit of something, especially of clothing, definition. I find that some are short stitches, and others are long stitches in our lives; the seen and unseen.

There are those who keep us in stitches, and we find ourselves in the state of uncontrollable laughter; these are keepers!

Then, there is the single loop of thread or yarn used to create a stitch or series of stitches formed in a particular way. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. Psalm 139:13.

God knows every stitch of our lives. He is continually moving people in and out of our lives to create a solid row of stitches to hold us together and create His beautiful garment.

My Mother stitched this old chambray shirt for me when I was in high school. What a labor of love. I remember wearing this shirt feeling, such love.

Yesterday, God turned me to see these roses as I drove down 6th Street. They reminded me of the love that God stitches into my being!

Fresh Find: Love this dress. Reminds me of the seventies!

Beautiful Book

I love books is an understatement. I don't keep many books though. They typically go back into the treasure pile for others to discover.

I found a beautiful book from an online source. The Book of Good Cheer, A Little Bundle of Cheery Thoughts, written by Edwin Osgood Grover and was published in 1909. It is ribbon tie bound. It is personalized with, A Merry Christmas to Olga Heinrich 1909 from S. B. Tobey.

I had a feeling when I saw it that I needed to read it. When I opened it these words greeted me...

40 Years

40 Years ago today, I married the man I had prayed for.

Following our wedding we traveled to Houston and enjoyed watching the Astros in the Astrodome, and I remember getting a wax replica of the Astrodome from a machine there.

This week, I found this little drawing and story. Clinton was a baseball pitcher growing up. As I read this little saying, I thought, he has done this on the field of life. God has blessed us.

In 1993, I wrote this to my husband and today it is truer than ever. Just add a son-in-law, daughter-in-law and three beautiful grand-girls!

You are the balance of my life.

I am proud and privileged to be your wife.

You are the one constant on whom I can depend.

God gave me a gift when you he did send.

You protect me from others, as well as myself.

You have given me many years of happiness, true wealth.

The scale of my life, you keep in perspective.

In His plan God knew I needed to be protected.

With two wonderful children, we have been blessed.

From each of us they received the best.

I have not been the wife you deserve.

You’ve wondered, I bet, why God threw you such a curve.

I pray for your continued patience and unending love.

I believe our marriage was created up above.

My dream is to grow old with you by my side.

You making me laugh and holding me through our days and nights.

God's Timing

Some will think I'm crazy, but others will cherish this story.

A beautiful and Godly woman left this city and her sweet soul is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Patty Winters was one of Plainview's quiet, but prominent figures. She was a past Woman of the Year that lived a life of servanthood. She was very involved in our local Faith in Sharing House, as well as many other community agencies throughout her life.

She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and one of the women that I classify as 'wisdom women' because God points them out to me for learning.

On Thursday morning, May 14th, Patty passed away. On that same day I purchased an old local hand created cookbook from an antique store to browse through. As I flipped through and read the fun recipes, I came to a loose piece of vintage notepad paper from the City National Bank.

On this slightly discolored piece of paper was the recipe for Millionaire Candy penned by Patty. Coincidence? I believe not. I scanned it and sent it to a family member that I communicate with via Facebook and she determined that it did, in fact, look like Patty's handwriting and that Patty had worked at the City National Bank for a time.

Patty Recipe

What a sweet gift God allowed me to find and share with this family. AND, an awesome recipe! Thanks Patty for your 'sweetness' that you brought everywhere you served!

One of the things that never ends is laundry. We are very fortunate in that we have always had a washing machine and dryer. My parents washer & dryer was in the garage and my grandmother's was in the wash-house and required her to walk outside for quite a way to get there.

This is her picture doing laundry outside of their first home in 1929. For her 80+ years of life, she walked outside in the elements to do their laundry.

She (Lucy May Hopkins Etter) is really using a washboard! We are so fortunate! Feeling blessed!!!

Special Children

This young lady, Michele Waller, is a Plainview High school graduating senior. I was blessed to be one of her second grade Sunday School teachers and call her friend. This picture was one of the many times she stopped by to see us, taken in 2009, six years ago.

I'm so excited to continue to watch her life journey as God grows her heart. There are so many special children who have brought joy to my heart.

God has blessed me with such special moments teaching children about His love. From being the children's director at First Baptist Church to teaching in the second grade to loving the one-year-olds now, God has always provided a clear path to lead me to where I am to serve. It is with sadness that I step away from our children's ministry as I prepare for a new journey.

The children will not remember me, but I will remember them. Oh, I may not be able to call their names or remember their faces as my memory will fade more with age, but I have the joy in my heart that recognizes the beauty in every child.

Pray for me as I sit still and listen for the Holy Spirit's direction.

Sweet Day

What a sweet, quiet Mother's Day. A day of reflection on the important women in my life. God has been good to me. Throughout my life, there have been wisdom women that God has blessed me to see and learn from.

Now, he has blessed me with three beautiful grand-girls. What a wonderful God of grace and beauty! I pray that God uses me in their life.

I posted this on Facebook yesterday: Mother's Day = card with United Monopoly pieces inside and a Hershey bar. I won!!!

This is what Clinton honors me with each special day, a card and a Hershey's bar. It is my gift of preference. I guess I'm like my mother in that we can sure use that money on someone or something that will make a difference. Plus with one of the pieces we won $5, so it was a win!

Don't get me wrong. I love flowers and I, on a rare occasion, will buy them for myself when I'm feeling bad, and then I don't feel so sad! LOL

I love giving gifts, but I don't do well-accepting gifts. I know many feel the same way.

At my age, I enjoy the things of life that connect me in a personal way, a link that provides a memory of someone I love. I hope that I can remember these special times as I age. I can't remember so much these days so I'm pretty sure I must cherish the moments NOW!

Our son's family brought a sweet gift of flowers from their garden, the ones started by my mother. What a sweet memory they delivered.

Our daughter's family sent this amazing art piece created by our oldest grand-sister. I love it and will cherish it always. I will pray for our grand-girls each time I see it. What a precious memory delivered.

Yes, I'm a blessed Ushka!

Roses For Mama © Lynn Casstevens

Lord, are there roses in your garden
On the shores of jubilee
Would you pick a dozen of your best
And deliver them for me?
For you see, today is mothers' day
And I can't visit my mom
For it wasn't very long ago
The angels came and took her home.
So if there are roses in your garden
On the shores of Jubilee
Would you pick a dozen of your best
And deliver them for me?
Would you take them to my mother
And tell her that I love her.
Tell her that I miss her
In oh! So many ways
But I have joy in knowing
We'll meet again someday
And we'll pick roses together
On the shores of Jubilee.

My mother loved her Irises. This is one of hers.
