Sunday I ended up sitting in the First Baptist Church of Temple, Oklahoma. We were in the area for Clinton's mom's Glasgow reunion. Since Clinton's family came to Plainview from Temple and they still have family there, we typically will be in attendance there during reunion time.
Today they had a wonderful memorial service to honor and remember their church member's family that serve and served in the armed services through a video presentation. It was really very touching.
The pastor spoke from 1 Corinthians 11:24-36, The First Memorial Day...
and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment. Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world. So then, my brothers and sisters, when you gather to eat, you should all eat together. Anyone who is hungry should eat something at home, so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment. And when I come I will give further directions.
His question was this...Is death your friend or is death your foe? In other words...are you ready?
Their choir sang this special song...
America Bless God
Larry Harrison & Joel Mott
From the mountains of majesty
to the amber waves of grain
I see the blessing of your hand
and recall a familiar refrain
We sing God bless America
won't you come and bless us once again
But your heart longs to hear
a nation fall on its knees and say
America Bless God
all across the fruited plains
America Bless God
lift your voice and praise his holy name
For he's been good, he's been faithful
by his hand our nation stands
So won't you sing all across this land
America bless God
America bless God
From the very beginning
Our fathers came so we could worship you
from generation to generation
time and again You have seen us through
Still we sing God bless America
won't You come and bless us once again
But your heart longs to hear
a nation fall on its knees and say
America Bless God
all across the fruited plains
America Bless God
lift your voice and praise His holy Name
For He's been good, He's been faithful
by His hand our nation stands
Won't you sing all across this land
America bless God
America Bless God
Time to change our tune, sing a different song
a song of gratefulness for what He's done
Let our light shine bright
Let the whole world know
It's in God we trust and in Him alone
Oh God You are my God and I will ever praise You
Oh God You are my God and I will ever praise You
America Bless God
America Bless God
America Bless God
all across the fruited plains
America Bless God
lift your voice and praise His holy Name
For He's been good, He's been faithful
by His hand our nation stands
Won't you sing all across this land
America bless God
America bless God
America bless God

Today a man came before the church who had come for marriage counseling and in the process asked Jesus into his heart. After he told the church he had accepted Christ he was baptized. It was the first time I had seen anyone baptized in the small country church. I had always admired their baptistery, with its flowing river in the back ground. Today, especially,It was the most beautiful picture of what Jesus is always doing within his people...moving!
.
Of course, the trip was perfect because we got to spend some time with our sisters, as in the grand-girls!
