Greats...

Some people are lucky enough to really get to know their great-grandparents.  My great-grandmother Hopkins was alive when I was young and I do have memories of her.  I like that.  I can see her in my mind and know that she gave me my Cranny (Lucy May Etter) and that is special!

Our children knew their great-grandparents on both sides.  The Dayton great-grands had been deceased many years, but they had many fun times with their Cranny & Bo, my mom's parents.  They did not get to know Grandma & Grandpa Glasgow, but they did get to spend quite a bit of time with their Grandma & Grandpa Wall.

I love this picture of Aaron with his Great-Grandpa & Grandma Wall.

Grandma & Grandpa Glasgow...

I was not around Clinton's Glasgow grandparents much before they passed away.  I know the many stories that I have heard through the years from their children, mostly Peggy.  I do remember visiting their home one time in Temple, Oklahoma.  I remember it being a good sized house, but not big enough for all their kids.  Good thing they were grown & out of the house!  A medium size kitchen buzzed with the chatter of catching up.  I remember how sweet it was that a family could enjoy each other so much.

Here is a picture of Grandma & Grandpa Glasgow.

Profound...

Again, my friend Retha sent me an email that just spoke to me and I want to share her words with you:

I was watching TV last night to try to lure myself to sleep...I heard a minister on TV say this:  God provided a whole Bible to explain who we are to him and who he is to us...and Satan constantly is trying to convince us of "who we are not".

Isn't that just profound?

Like when the devil whispers to us about our earthly inadequacies or deficits:  "Oh, you don't have__________so, you aren't blessed!!"  And, how we let this deflate us and our faith.  I thought about teenagers dealing with wanting to feel "normal" and how Satan camps in their ground constantly.

Yep, a whole Bible from the Maker of the universe to tell us how much he loves us and wants a relationship and we tend to listen to one sentence from a 'slimy snake'.

Although I know that to be true...and you have probably heard that before...it was such a simple statement.

I could just see God standing there holding the Bible looking at me going, "What? Do you not get this?"

Do you ever have thoughts of unworthiness or inadequacies?  We need to remember that God was before we ever thought...he has prepared a way for us.  The Bible is full of esteem building words, but is also quick to 'slap our hands' when we do wrong.  Our Father loves us enough to discipline us, is strong enough to carry us when we need comfort and above all directs us to eternal life through his son Jesus Christ.  No one else loves so perfectly.

Mother's Birthday...

Today was my mom's 79th birthday.  We started out with me picking her up at 10 this morning and driving to Lubbock.  She had a couple of errands and then an eye appointment.  We had lunch and then we had a few hours to kill before her great-grandson was to play basketball.  We hit the Catholic Family Services resale shop and had more fun.  We always love finding bargains there.  When we don't need anything it is just fun to look and find a treasure from others trash!  After that we drove to the game, which had been  canceled ;o(  So, we headed home and ate at Furr's.  Then I gave her the gift I bought, behind her back, at the resale store.  A hand carved in Mexico pelican.  She would not pay the 28.00 for it...so, I bought it for 25.00 just for her.  She was sooooooooo excited.  Funny, how the smallest things make us happy!!!

Questions...

If my abs are no where near normal, how can I be abnormal???

If I meet a friend, but not on a ship, can we still have a friendship?

Can the larynx in my throat be a Phyllis apple instead of Adam's apple? Oh, right...I was not in the garden ;o)

Anyway...on to an 80th birthday of a long time Plainview friend, Virginia Dickerson.  One of 11 children and mom of 6, I think, she is a servant at heart!!!

022

Her family threw her her very first surprise birthday party tonight at the Rockin' R Steak House.  There must of been 60 people there. I added a photo album in the left sidebar if you want to see more...

I went to school with her daughter Jennett and her husband, Keith Berlin.  It was so good to see them again.

Virginia also made Chrissa's first few twirling costumes.

This was her very first competition costume.

This was her first costume for AYOP (America's Youth on Parade) held in South Bend, Indiana.

Love Potion

Today as I was driving to Lubbock to visit a friend in the hospital, I switched my radio from channel 32 to 6...contemporary christian to 60s rock.  The famous Searchers song, 'Love Potion #9' was playing.  Here are the lyrics in case you forgot them or never heard the song before.

I took my troubles down to Madame Rue
You know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth
She's got a pad down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
Sellin' little bottles of Love Potion Number Nine

I told her that I was a flop with chics
I've been this way since 1956
She looked at my palm and she made a magic sign
She said "What you need is Love Potion Number Nine"

She bent down and turned around and gave me a wink
She said "I'm gonna make it up right here in the sink"
It smelled like turpentine, it looked like Indian ink
I held my nose, I closed my eyes, I took a drink

I didn't know if it was day or night
I started kissin' everything in sight
But when I kissed a cop down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
He broke my little bottle of Love Potion Number Nine

I started thinking about wouldn't it be grand to have a love potion that was bottled, that we could just pick up at the corner CVS?  We could take a drop and everyone would love everyone, all hurts forgotten, no more homeless, no more fear.

We do have a Love Potion.  Love Potion #1.  His name is Jesus.

In Romans 8:38-38

For I am persuaded beyond doubt that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things impending and threatening nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I have the Love Potion and Madame Rue can, too!!!
