A wonderful 1929 circa photo of the five-hundred block of Broadway Street in Downtown Plainview. We see the Hotel Ware mural on the hotel's south side—the movie theatre to the left and a dry goods store. Looking further, we see the bank building, Skaggs building, the courthouse gazebo. Lots of changes in over 100 years! What else do you see?
Last night's storm damage is pretty extensive here in Plainview. The housing addition west of North Elementary has heavy roof damage on many homes. It looks like it rained shingles minus the moisture. The fire department did a trained and ready control of the fire in the Draw off of Quincy and 4th. We do have the very best!!! While the firefighters were fighting fires, the wind whipped the back off of the new fire station located on Dimmitt Road and I27. There are huge old trees down and much more throughout town. The sustained winds let us feel their power. It remains windy today, and the cold front hit. Many are battling breathing and barometric pressure drops health issues, too.

Seth Ward College was established in 1910 after the Plainview District of the Methodist Church bought Central Plains College from the Holiness Church for $32,000. The school was renamed in honor of the first Texas bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and was reorganized as a two-year coeducational college designed to prepare students to enter Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. The military atmosphere of the former Central Plains College was dropped. Football, basketball, and baseball teams were organized and competed with the new Wayland Baptist College, also in Plainview. Enrollment averaged more than 200 from 1913 through 1915. The men's dormitory was gutted by fire in the spring of 1914. Construction on a new building was begun, but before it was completed, a second fire, on March 16, 1916, destroyed both the administration building and the women's dormitory. The Northwest Texas Conference closed the school and in 1929 transferred its surviving funds to the board of education, which loaned the money free of interest to McMurry College in Abilene. Seth Ward reunions were held in Plainview from 1932 through 1975.

The 2025 hurriboob is quite intense! Say what we will today, but I wouldn't live anywhere else. Today is a lesson and what we learn makes us better!
In the 1960s, Hale County hosted the Cotton Carnival. There were many activities associated with this grand community event. This first photo is from the talent competition. We have L to R, Gary Hewitt, Eddie Lewis, Charles Jay Edmiston Benny White and Greg Roberts performing for the talent show prize.
There was a pageant competition. We are not certain who the older young lady is, but the younger one is labeled Renee Benefield.
