Rosas Family

 

This evening was the 17th Annual Rosas Family Thanksgiving dinner for the Plainview community. Rey Rosas was involved in numerous organizations and hosted meals for veterans and their families on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. On Thanksgiving and Christmas, they served the general public. Rey served on the Plainview City Council and was involved throughout the community. He passed away in 2016, but his family continues the legacy that he began. Tonight, they served a Thanksgiving meal to their guests. The Radiant Lily shone bright for the hearts involved!

Gifts

 

The Hale County Historical Commission receives gifts from individuals from all walks of life and many locations. The gifts are all woven with Hale County threads.

HCHC Collection

 

This month, the Hale County Historical Commission has added many new items to its Collection. One is this signed copy book about the life of C.C. Slaughter. Read about this man who helped shape Hale County.

 

 

Another item that was entered into the HCHC Plainview Chamber of Commerce Collection is this 1949 letter of correspondence between Raymond Johns, Plainview Chamber, and V. M. Lancaster, Bishop chamber manager.

 

Migrant Family Success Story

 

Nicki Logan, oral histories chairperson for the Hale County Historical Commission, looks at a Plainview Herald Lifestyles "FAMILIES" feature she wrote about the Gamboa family in 1990.  Thursday, November 21, 2024, the Texas Tech Southwest Collection Oral History Library was at the HCHC to interview two of Antonia and Jose Gamboa's children, Hope Gamboa and Johnny and his wife Adelita (Di) Gamboa, about migrant families and the success they realized through understanding the importance of education.

 

 

The Hale County Historical Commission hosts oral history interviews each month. The interviews may be read at the Texas Tech Southwest Collection Library or online within a year of the interviews.

 

Bowman Lake

 

A 1937 photo of Bee Kidd ice skating at Bowman Lake in north Plainview. It was located on north Columbia, where the Farmer's Nursery used to be. The lake is where ponies Scotty & Lullabelle would dive 35 feet into the lake. Doug McDonough & Gordan Zeigler wrote about it in 2010.

Christmas Parade!

 

A photo of the 1947 Plainview Christmas Parade at the corners of 7th and Ash Street in front of Bob Hooper Motor Company. Our Santa and sleigh have come a long way since then.

88 Years!

 

About fifty individuals from Hale County, City, Chamber, community, family, and friends joined the Hale County Historical Commission to celebrate McDonald Trading Post's Texas Treasure Business Award for 88 years of economy support in Texas.
