In my volunteerism, there are key people that I consider visionaries. These individuals don't work inside a box; they permeate the boundaries with joy, encouragement, and service. I want to share an incident that happened today.
We had our Covenant Health Foundation board meeting. Afterward, I was walking out with a fellow board member. We were talking 'downtown' business, and a young man walked up looking for a specific location of a local dentist. Their Google map had directed them to the hospital. My friend and I gave him directions, with the friend stepping in and helping him grasp the location. Once he realized where it was, he was ready to head out.
We continued talking as we walked to my car. Next, a pick-up pulled up, wanting to find Dr. Farr's office. Ortho has moved to 5th Street (side note: Business After Hours will be Thursday, August 11, 2022, 5-6 p.m. @ 1605 West 5th), and this pro-aging couple was from out of town, so both of us tried to think of the best way to get them directed there.
Then, this visionary spoke from his heart and said, "Let me lead you there." He was leaving and heading that way, so he took the time to guide them to the Ortho Clinic. He permeated his box and lent a helping hand. This is the exemplary service of a visionary. The detail is in the little things that truly make a difference.
Thank you, Pedro Reyes, for your 'eyes to see.'
