Looking Northwest

 

Pictured is Master Photographer Bill Weaks, photos of Plainview looking northwest over downtown. This photograph is in the Hale County Historical Commission Collection from Pam and Jim Green.

There have been many beautiful changes in Downtown Plainview, especially the last five. Come visit, April 8th is her ribbon cutting, 5 PM @ the Fair Theater.

 

 

Looking West

 

A great photograph taken by Bill Weaks Photography and donated to the Hale County Historical Commission Collection by Pam and Jim Green. A treasure of a gift to the collection.

 

 

New Sign

 

The Hale County Historical Commission is located at 111 West 6th Street, Suite B, Plainview, Texas, 79072 (to the west of the county surveyors office). The replacement sign was hung today, so passers-by or those looking specifically for the HCHC will know what door to enter.

 

New Business

 

This new tire center will be opening soon, located at Quincy ad 24th Street.

 

 

Gift

 

The Hale County Historical Commission recently received a package filled with paper "desk" items from E. F. McClendon from Kevin Davis. What a beautiful gift has been bestowed through this Plainview, Texas collection. The earliest paper was dated 1898. There are about thirty pieces in this collection dated through the nineteen-thirties.

 

 

 

Cleaning

 

Some lucky citizen(s) had fun cleaning their tires after finding them inches deep in wet concrete at the Quincy and 24th Street intersection!

 

 

Fire Station

 

The Plainview Fire Station, a bond package project, is coming along! Yay, better community coverage!

 

 

Stop & Shop Sign

 

The sign said Stop & Shop Super Market and was located at 9th and Broadway Streets. Notice the Fire Dept. vehicles. Historic buildings and homes must be protected because a fire can take them down so quickly. If you own a historic building, remember to keep it free from kindling-type products (paper), historic buildings should never be filled as storage units, get the Fire Marshall to check it out yearly, be sure the electrical is up to code and that you have adequate extinguishers. These things give it a fighting chance in the case of a spark.

 

 

Trio

 

I remember getting food a few times from the Trio, a cheeseburger I believe is what we mostly ordered. Did you have a favorite food, beverage, or memory to share about the Trio?
