Parks Board

 

For as many years as I can remember, Ruby Riggins has served her community in very many ways. One of the areas she has represented is Givens Park, her neighborhood park; she volunteers her time on the City of Plainview Park Advisory Board. 

 

 

Today the parks board met to begin the process of a parks master plan update. Several members were sworn in for new terms. Ruby was one of them. She has dedicated a good portion of her life to assuring Plainview has a great parks system.

The PHS baseball field is coming along nicely. Exciting things are happening throughout the City of Plainview, County of Hale, Texas! 

 

 

M. E. Church

 

 

Came across this M. E. Church South postcard from the Home Mission Society. The Methodist Episcopal Church (MEC) was the oldest and largest Methodist denomination in the United States from its founding in 1784 until 1939.

This church was located at the corner of Baltimore and 7th Streets. 

 

 

Cool Find

 

I was in a local shop and the manager asked me about this ruler. What a cool find to add to the vintage collection! Tell us your Bryan's Foods stories!!!

 

 

Finished

 

The Hale County Historical Commission was given the framed worshipful master photographs from the Masonic Lodge when they closed the Plainview organization after 125 years.

Photographs from 1896 through 2021 were carefully removed from the frames. Many had a name label stuck to the back paper, so this was removed.

 

All of the backs were taped, so the tape was removed. Then they were either nail framed or spike framed. Both were difficult because the nails were harder to remove, but the spikes hurt worse.

 

Each photo had a paper strip taped at the bottom with the name and year they served as worshipful masters.

 

After removal, the items were placed in a folder waiting to be added to the HCHC Collection that will be housed at the Unger Memorial Library over the next five years.

 

The tools of the trade. They worked very well.

 

It was fun to be reminded of the different photography businesses, too, as we went through. There may have been others that we missed. I was surprised that there were no Beery photos in the bunch.

Redo

 

Today, I was in The Tree House  (formerly Robert's Tree House), and they have some pretty awesome remodeling going on. You will be surprised. I found what I was looking for and can't wait to see their redo all done. It sure looks nice. Get ready for spring!!!

Those were the days, my friend; we thought they'd never end, but they did, and I'm thankful for them. They are a part of who we are today!
