I love the swirl of the font of the Harvest Queen Mills signage. My grandfather, Hugh Robert Etter of Bert Electric and then Etter Electric, wired this building. Our friend, D, J, Anderson worked at the mill. He wore white overalls, carried a black lunch pail, and had a cold beer and salt every afternoon when he got home from his shift.

Seth Ward is a suburban community by the intersection of Farm Roads 1767 and 400, just northeast of Plainview, Texas, in northeastern Hale County. The Central Plains College and Conservatory of Music was built on the site in 1907, and in 1910 the school became Seth Ward College, named for Seth Ward, a Methodist bishop. The school burned down in 1916 and was not rebuilt. The community was identified as Seth Ward by 1920. Significant development began in the area after World War II, and by 1950 Seth Ward was an unincorporated suburban community of 1,035 inhabitants. Its population reached 1,328 in 1960, then grew to 1,600 in 1974. The community declined to 1,111 residents in 1990 but increased dramatically in the 1990s to reach 1,926 inhabitants in 2000.
Seth Ward is not Plainview, Texas. It is Seth ward, Texas. Their community has quarterly clean-up days led by Diane Martinez, who currently serves as a Plainview Main Street board member. Volunteers from the Seth ward community, Wayland Baptist University, and the Seth Ward Water Supply Co., Inc., are out gathering items left by the dumpsters, items that residents want to discard, and from illegal dumpers.
This is NOT okay. Nor is it okay to stack pallets in alleys, mattresses by dumpsters, or whole households in the bar ditch!
Illegal dumpers must be controlled. If you see someone, get their plate number, a picture of the items dumped if possible, and contact the Hale County Sheriff's office or the City of Plainview Code Enforcement office, depending on the dump location.
Create a neighborhood clean-up for your area. You can reserve a roll-off in the City, and in the County, I believe you can rent a roll-off from SWPS. Let's create more beautiful communities for our children. Thank you to our neighboring community, Seth Ward, for setting an example of creating GOOD change!!!

There is even more activity going on in Plainview. We are alive, and things are improving, old and new. The Ace Hardware is coming along and will open soon.
So much to be excited about in Plainview. I have heard people say that downtown Plainview is dead. Did you know that when the heart of a community, the historic downtown, is revitalized, that the entire community benefits from the "blood pumping" from the heart out into the rest of the city! I think we see evidence of successful improvements throughout our hometown!
It is warming up again, and although the parks system staff never stops, they are starting the update on the Kiwanis & Clay Warren Memorial Pavilion in the Lloyd Woods Park. Excited to see this area improved and more user-friendly.
