One day we will look back at old Plainview Herald issues, just like we look back at this old Plainview Sunday Herald to read about important happenings. Our newspaper should be a documentation of history. When I think about how technology has singlehandedly destroyed the printed version of the newspaper, it saddens me, but I understand that change will happen whether we like it or not, sometimes it is good and sometimes not so much. Either way, we must embrace the change.
We must decide if we want a newspaper to continue to be available in Plainview. If we do, as businesses, we must advertise there. As a business who advertises, to make it worth the money, there must be readers. We are the readers. We are in reality the ones who will determine the future of the local newspaper. If you have a subscription, awesome, if you don't, please do, or renew, if, for no other reason than historically speaking, we need it to represent our community and the area.
Look at the detail and work put into the floats in this early Plainview parade. Parades are more fun to watch when the entries take the effort to please the spectators!!! Plainview has always loved its parades!
Amateur radio, also known as ham radio, is a hobby enjoyed by a few hundred thousand people in the United States and by over a million people worldwide. Amateur radio operators call themselves "radio hams" or simply "hams." ... But ham radio can provide communication during states of emergency, as well. I have memories of them doing just that as I grew up in Plainview. We have had our share of radio enthusiasts through the years. With technology, this hobby has dwindled. I would enjoy hearing the stories of these individuals or yours.
I-4, not like in Bingo but as in BINGO! I never noticed the layout of Walmart before. I just go in and know where I'm going. This week while I was in the store a man came up and asked me where the hardware department was. I pointed but I could have said the back forty of Section I. Did you know they have Sections A-M? Next time you are in the store look to see what section you are in. A is produce through the refrigerator foods. B-F is clothing. G is cosmetics through pet food. H is the home goods. I is seasonal through hardware. J-M are along the back wall from infants to tires. I'm typing this from what I remember today so I do hope it is somewhat accurate. It is funny how unobservant I am.

16th Street Pool < Plainview Aquatics Center! The 16th Street pool is totally removed; gone. It is now wide open for progress! Look for the Plainview Aquatics Center to open late summer-early Fall 2019. The target date is July 2019 but we know the weather will bring a delay here and there so, realistically, August-September-October, and we pray for a great hot fall-time day for a fun grand opening!!!
The Grille, located at the Plainview Country Club, is now open to the public for your dining pleasure. Tuesday through Sunday, 11-2 and Tuesday through Saturday, 5-10 PM you will find a quiet and yummy dining experience.
