Ash High School is a nonstandard learning style campus. We are familiar with the words alternative or nontraditional. Whatever you want to call the style of teaching and learning at this campus, it is a campus designed for learning. The students who attend this campus have most likely found themselves struggling with learning. When students are missing key educational components through the standardized style of learning, they often spiral out of control, their cry for help. Ash High School is making huge strides in educating and helping to formulate life plans for their students. Every student is embraced and guided to what works for them.
I was invited to join in one of their community partnership events, ABC Partnership Night. I had the opportunity to visit with several of the students and even a couple who were graduates. I was very impressed with every student and their desire to move forward through education into a life plan.
There was pizza and there were games...

The school has started a newspaper. It is encouraging to see the students write. If we can write, we can release our emotion, just like we can through art.

Speaking of art. The students at AHS are entering Doodle 4 Google. They are to create an uplifting doodle that tells the world, What Inspires Me." From crayons to clay, graphic design, or even food, students will bring their creations to life. Their doodles must include the letters G-O-O-G-L-E.
They would love to have community artists to come help inspire. Contact Ms. Willey at 293-6010.
