There are several advocating entities in Plainview. One question that I get asked the most often is what are the differences and why do we have them. I'm going to share with you what I understand about each one. I hope it helps clarify how we all work together for the good of the community, county, region, and state.
Hale County/covers the entire county and its needs.
City of Plainview/focuses on the business growth & care for citizens in the city limits of Plainview, Texas.
Main Street/CVB/our Main Street is a registered district with the TMSP (Texas Main Street Program) We are to provide technical expertise, resources, and support for our district through the preservation and revitalization of our historic downtown and commercial neighborhood district in accordance with the National Main Street Four-Point Approach® of organization, economic restructuring, design and promotion. THE CVB (Convention and Visitor's Bureau is our local tourism marketing organization specializing in developing conventions, meetings, conferences to Plainview. Both of these entities are governed by the City of Plainview organizational structure.
Plainview Downtown Association/a 501(c)(3) organization of downtown business owners and community partners interested in the business growth in the 'heart of the community' downtown Plainview. Membership dues are assessed annually.
Chamber of Commerce/a business network of local organizations and businesses whose goal is to further the interests of business. Business owners come together to advocate on behalf of the business community. Membership dues accessed annually.
Plainview-Hale County Economic Development Corporation/the purpose of the Plainview/Hale CountyEconomic Development Corporation is to promote economic development in Plainview and Hale County.
High Ground of Texas/a marketing coalition made up of members with economic development interests in the region.
Port-to-Plains Alliance/is a grassroots alliance of communities and businesses whose mission is to advocate for a robust international transportation infrastructure to promote economic security and prosperity throughout North America’s energy and agricultural heartland from Mexico to Canada.
Plainview First/is a quarterly gathering for education, city, county, community entity leaders to report for the good of the area.
