The firework display that all of Plainview will enjoy on Saturday, July 2, 2016, is ours. By ours, I mean it is up to us as a community to pay for them if we want to keep enjoying them. We ALL enjoy watching them, so, please, if you have not donated, do!

You may mail to or take your donation to the Plainview Chamber of Commerce office at 1906 West 5th. You may call them for more information @ 806.296.7431.

The Plainview Chamber of Commerce does not pay for the fireworks, we, as a community do. Let's give to continue having them!!! They share this card today.

Carnival Weekend!

 

It is a carnival weekend in Plainview. I know because...

The Pride of Texas carnival starts on Wednesday, June 15th and runs through Saturday, June 18th. It opens at 6 PM and runs until about 10 PM and on Friday and Saturday, it will stay open later. Have Fun!

 

YMCA Safe Camp

 

Today, as I left Carlito's (on Broadway) from the Plainview Downtown Association meeting, the YMCA Safe Camp kids were walking down the street towards the Fair Theater for not one movie, but according to one adorable young girl, TWO movies. They were so excited. They loved peering in the windows as they passed. I was blessed by their enthusiasm! What a wonderful program the YMCA offers!

Just Never Know

 

You just never know what you might see on any given star light, star bright night in Plainview. This time, it was a dumpster fire!

 

 

Cornerstone

 

The cornerstone of the United States Post Office in Plainview, Texas, tells us that Ogden L. Mills was the Secretary of the Treasury when the Plainview post office was constructed. Ogden L. Mills was secretary of the Treasury from February 12, 1932, until March 5, 1933. Under the provisions of the original Federal Reserve Act, the Treasury secretary was ex-officio chairman of the Federal Reserve Board.

James A. Wetmore (1863-1940) was an American lawyer and administrator, best known as the Acting Supervising Architect of the U.S. Office of the Supervising Architect from 1915 through 1933. Wetmore is frequently and incorrectly described as the "architect" of the many federal buildings that bear his name.
