Good Stock

I have known the Chamberlains for some time. Marilyn has done hair in these parts for a while. Sweetest woman. Our daughter went to school with their son, Casey. So as I watch this sweet little girl, I know she comes from good stock. What a joy to watch the blessings flow for this family. Exciting times, watching children enjoy life in different ways. Folks, she is good, her horse is good, and together they are a team.

She may not have won the title this year, but she sure is giving it her all. She has won hearts along the way. I bet she is still working towards the challenge of next season!

They are just good!!!

 

The Riley Adams Duo

 

I've watched this young lady grow up singing. It has been a joy to see her develop into the wonderful musician she is today. Evan Johnson is a "Plainview area"' girl who performs as The Riley Adams Duo. 

For me, one of the blessings in life is watching young people develop their artistic side. For some, it is a hobby. For others, it becomes a career. Either way, it is an emotion-filled journey.

2015 Relay for Life

Relay for Life

 

This is a picture of my mother, Lorena Dayton, aka Nanny, and me at a Wall reunion in Ruidoso, NM, in the early 2000s.

 

She loved big "Texas" hair. It kept the sun from her face and hid her Hopkins forehead. (of course, I'm not sure about my "flip" hair-do either ;o)

She wore big-legged pants before big-legged pants were cool.

She carried a red-solo-cup before that country hit song made them famous.

She was a trendsetter!

She loved the mountains. She most enjoyed the mountain streams.

Cancer took her life in September 2013. I will participate in the Hale County Relay for Life in memory of her. Cancer took the life of my brother in January 2014. I will Relay in his memory, too. I will Relay in honor of all of those I know who are fighting, one day at a time. They are my SUPERHEROES!!!

The Hale County Relay for Life is tonight, Friday, April 17, 2015, from 6:00pm until midnight @ the Ollie Liner Center. Come walk laps, participate in raising awareness and funds, enjoy the entertainment, as we celebrate HOPE.

GLAD

 

If you keep up with Plainview via the Plainview Herald or KKYN radio then you have heard about a new program started for veterans called GLAD (God's Love and Dogs). This program offers enrolled veterans with post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury disabilities the opportunity to train their own dog to provide assistance as they struggle with issues associated with PTS and TBI.

Plainview residents, Jessica and Taylor Olson have been on a journey to some semblance of recovery since Taylor's service-related injury in 2009. They have found it through Taylor's dog, Major. In 2012, Taylor trained his dog to assist him daily as his service dog. Major can do what medications and others can't do. Through extensive training, weekly and bi-weekly, the veteran and dog work together to discover the needs and address the specific training needed.

With the knowledge and results seen in Taylor's life, the Olsons are helping other veterans face the future with hope.

Greatness

 

Every time you visit Wayland Baptist University you come in contact with greatness. Like today while we were getting ready for the Sally Society Power of the Purse event. I looked over the ledge to see who was in the dining room. Greatness, with a bit of orneriness; Danny Andrews, Rick Cooper, Eddie Turner and Tom Hall. Do you wonder what they might be discussing?

 

Wind

 

I often complain about driving what I call a truck, but today I was really glad I had a big heavy vehicle!

I had a doctors appointment this morning in Lubbock. Both up there and back the wind was blowing about 40 mph and the rain fell in sheets. 

I'm not complaining because God is washing our little part of the world. A blessing! I'm just thankful for our "truck."

Five Cow Wife

 

 

I just never know where God is going to lead me when I get ready to blog. I love to see what he brings into my thoughts. Today, it was this cow picture and then he gave me the story of the Five Cow wife. 

Salima was not the prettiest girl in the village. In fact, she was plain and skinny. She was also shy, and she walked with her shoulders hunched and her head down, looking at the ground. She was older than many of the girls who were already married. Surely she would only be worth a small bride-price! Then along came Daoud's family from a far village. A marriage was arranged. What surprised everyone in her village was this: the bride price that Daoud paid was five cows. No-one expected a price of more than one cow for such a plain, shy girl who was almost too old to marry! Even the top bride-price was usually only three cows. Was it a mistake? Had Daoud's family been tricked? A month later, Salima's younger sister made the long journey to visit Salima's new village. She could not believe her eyes. Salima looked beautiful and confident. Her sister asked Daoud how this had happened. "I wanted to give my love to a five-cow wife," he said. "So I treated her as a five-cow wife, and now she believes she is a five-cow wife – worth more than any other woman in my village. She is like a jewel." In the same way, God loves us so much that he has paid a very high price for each of us – his own life blood. Each one of us is precious and special to him. His love for us can change our lives, and the way we think about ourselves.
