Exploring Plainview Texas

Air ...

Houston, we have air. The wind was blowing here in Plainview today. No fear though...the tumbleweed I hung from our tree is still hanging. That is one tough weed! I saw it several times completely uplifted to the east from this west wind.

I stopped by the airport to see who might be out on this windy day. I actually got to see a helicopter land and an aircraft take off. You would not need the propellers if you were flying with the wind...glide!

Today would be a day that the air turbines would most likely be locked down if they were up here. They are moving and getting ready to begin on the east side ones. Will be fun to watch.

Plainview Sanitarium ...

.

The first hospital in Hale County was a private facility established in a residence by Dr. J.V. Guyton in 1912. The Guyton-Nichols Sanitarium was established the following year when Guyton formed a partnership with Dr. E.O. Nichols and together they built a 12-room hospital in the 800 block of West 8th Street. The two-story and basement structure was called the Plainview Sanitarium.

Fun to see how nursing attire has changed. ;o)

There is a new art gallery across from the Brew called Talen's. Wonderfully sweet people I met there today and I loved the musician that greeted me.

Join us at The Hub, a fair featuring organizations willing and able to boost communication/cooperation in order to better provide tools that help people help themselves.

If you are looking for a chance to volunteer and give back to your community, or if you are in need of some form of assistance, “The Hub” offers many different possibilities. The Hub will meet monthly and is a community effort held at 1001 West 7^th Street, east end, First United Methodist Church.

I attended their first gathering this week and was very pleased with what I saw and heard. It was a connections evening. The agencies represented were networking and discovering how they could help each other. People were discovering how they might plug into volunteering in our community and discovering new ways to help others help themselves. Then there were those who were there learning what our community agencies might offer them to improve their lives or the lives of someone they know.

Lots of work goes into creating something like this...a hub, a connector, a people touching lives; giving and getting back. Blessings!

Mountain Top ...

This is one of my favorite family pictures. Our grandmother, Lucy May Etter (aka Cranny) and my brother, John Hugh Dayton. They are in front of a mountain top in Colorado Springs, CO.

Mountains represent an obstacle and a challenge when we consider the climb. They represent stability and a place of refuge when we are on the journey. There is a sacrifice represented in them. God created them. Our worship can be found through the desire to reach the mountain top.

My brother, John Hugh Dayton, reached his Eternal home on January 7 . 2014. He joined our Cranny and Bo, Mother & Father, and many other relatives we never knew. He found a beauty there that is beyond what our eyes can see or our minds imagine. He has been set free.

It is by accepting Jesus Christ that we are set free and find the assurance of this mountain top.

I don't know if you follow Todrick Hall, former Plainview resident. He has made Forbes 30 Under 30. A pretty awesome feat for the former American Idol contest turned YouTube video musical master...Actor, Writer, Director, Singer.

It Beckons ...

It beckons. There is something that beckons us to this place we call home. I do think I have it figured out. Well, actually God has been showing us for years, generation to generation.

It is in His nature that we are drawn to this simple place called Plainview. We have flat. We have hills. We have amazing sunrises and sunsets, AND we can see them from the first peek of light to the last ray. Why, we even have four beautiful seasons...just as was his design. 

Feeling blessed to live on the plains of Texas...pioneer pride!!!
