I have known the Tapp family for as long as I can remember. Sue, Jan, Carol, Thelma & Deryl. Carol was closer in age to me, so mostly I have known her. I consider her one of my dearest friends. A Sister in Christ added to that friendship, and this makes for a real blessing.
I can remember going into Tapp's office supply and seeing Thelma up front waiting on customers, and Deryl would be in the back working on a typewriter. Then Carol came home from college and brought her man, Randy Kaufman into the mix. It was a sweet-spirited place to shop.
We all attended the First Baptist Church, and our faith brought us many years of meshing lives. I count them a blessing. In the early nineties, I was called on a mission trip to the Ukraine. Deryl Tapp went on many mission trips all around the world, and he was on the mission trip I was on. Here are a few pictures of the missionary, Deryl Tapp.
Deryl shares with Andrey, the pastor (white shirt with back turned) and others on the journey.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, Trust the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. Deryl did this.
Today, at the Celebration of a Jesus welcoming of James Deryl Tapp, the following written in bold was shared. The non-bold is the rest of the story.
Every minute someone leaves this world behind.
age has nothing to do with it.
we are all in this the line without realizing it.
we never know how many people are before us. we can not move to the back of the line.
we can not step out of the line.
we can not avoid the line.
so while we wait in line -
make moments count.
make a difference.
make the call.
make the time.
make your gifts known.
make a nobody feel like a somebody.
make your voice heard.
make the small things big.
make someone smile.
make the change.
make yourself a priority.
make sure to tell your people they are loved.
make sure to have no regrets.
make sure you are ready.
make sure you are a child of the king!
Thank you, Deryl, for the example you set for so many. Because of your example, many carry the message of Salvation found in Jesus Christ.
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. Revelation 3:20
"And remember the knob is on your side of the door." Deryl Tapp
